Alsatian style with riper fruit, barrel aging and time on the lees, delivering a fresh and vibrant wine with stylish barrel use.

Tasting notes

Caramelized lemon peel, marzipan, white blossoms and minerals. Racy and intense, it opens with air to show notes of lemon merengue pie, light baking spices, white tea and chalk. Terrific volume and a silky texture, buffers good acidity and a tannic spine. Also showing young, this will drink nicely now if you prefer a youth full intensity but if you want more texture and sweetness I would wait a couple years. - Aryn Morell

Production notes

Made in a dry Alsatian style with riper fruit, barrel aging and time on the gross lees. The vineyard site allows for great hang time and great acid retention for delivering fresh and vibrant wines with stylish barrel use. Aged 13 months in 100% used French oak.

89 points - Vinous, Stephen Tanzer | (fermented and aged in barrels, with lees stirring): Bright, green-tinged yellow. Aromas of crushed lime, fresh ginger and flowers. Then supple and surprisingly creamy on the palate, with the leesy element adding needed richness to the wine and buffering its brisk citrus and spice elements. The wine's 4.5 grams per liter of residual sugar contribute to an almost soft impression but this Riesling hardly lacks for shape or energy.

All Gård wines are the product of Lawrence Vineyards designated by the Columbia Valley AVA in Royal City, Washington.

Winemaker Aryn Morell, a Washington native, honed his skills in Napa Valley working with some of the country’s most notable producers, including Silver Oak, Joseph Phelps, Quintessa, Husic, Chimney Rock, Chappellet, Stags Leap and countless others in winemaking and the chemical engineering of wine as part of a consulting company for which he worked.

Aryn joined the Gard team as head winemaker in 2011, and spends considerable time in the winery’s estate vineyard with Josh Lawrence, Gard founder and viticulturist.  With an uncompromising attention to detail, Aryn carefully crafts Gard wines with an eye toward the unique expression of terroir of the estate vineyard, and earns frequent accolades and high acclaim for his wines.

In 2014, Aryn and Gard founders Josh and Lisa Lawrence launched a winemaking facility in Walla Walla, M&L Production, where all the Gård wines are produced, bottled and aged. Aryn also makes wine for Matthews Estate, Tenor, Alleromb and Mullan Road, a Washington project for Cakebread Cellars of California.
