75% Syrah, 25% Grenache

“A blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache, the 2017 Vaucluse has a beautiful bouquet of blueberries, lavender, herbes de Provence and ground pepper". - Jeb Dunnuck
Tasting notes
Garrigue, plum skin, black tea, savory and black olive create a dark and intensely perfumed nose. Swirling brings up sweet black fruits like plums, currants, black cherry and a reduced blackberry puree. The palate starts with breadth and polish and transitions into dark fruits and hardwood smoke and spice. The wine finishes with fine but serious tannin, dehydrated black fruits and tea notes. Somehow staying perfumed while being brooding and intense. -Aryn Morell
Production notes

Made from three different picks of Syrah between October 9 and 13 and from two different clones with Tablas Creek making up 50% of the blend and Joseph Phelps making up the other 25%. Each piece being fermented separately and then being blended after 10 months. Fermented in 95% stainless steel and 5% concrete with 12.5% whole cluster and then aged in 75% new French oak 500L’s for 22 months. This was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

This wine is produced Vegan.

Other notes

Inspired by the Vaucluse department in the south of France, this Rhone blend is harvested from the fertile soils of our estate vineyard near Royal City in the Columbia Valley. Our Vaucluse is a reflection of the finest wines of the namesake region, located due east of France's Gard department. Within the Vaucluse lies Mondragon, a small village bearing the surname of our esteemed vineyard manager, Isidro Mondragon.

92pts  - Jeb Dunnuck | A blend of 72% Syrah, 27% Grenache, 1% that spent 9 months in 29% new French oak, the 2015 Vaucluse Lawrence Estate sports an inky color to go with beautiful Syrah notes of plums, cured meats, olive tapenade, and peppered meats. With medium to full-bodied richness, excellent purity, a big mid-palate, and a great finish, it's a terrific wine.

91pts - Stephen Tanzer/Vinous

“Bright medium ruby. Musky, slightly reduced aromas of black fruits, mocha, chocolate mint and animal fur. Concentrated, fine-grained, juicy wine with a distinctly savory wildness but good texture to its black fruit, black pepper and smoke flavors. There's plenty of fat Grenache black cherry in the middle but the wine is currently dominated by its wilder, more savory Syrah component. Finishes saline and long, with firm but well-distributed tannins and little in the way of easy sweetness. Give this one another year in bottle before pulling the cork."

Gård Vintners is 100% estate grown sustainably at Lawrence Vineyards in the Royal Slope AVA. Lawrence Vineyards features seven distinct vineyard sites with elevations ranging 930 feet to 1,675 feet. The combination of elevation and south-facing slope provides a great framework for grape production, while the diversity of the seven locations delivers a high level of complexity to Gård wines. Lawrence Vineyards is certified sustainable by Vinewise.org.

Winemaker Aryn Morell, a Washington native, honed his skills in Napa Valley working with some of the country’s most notable producers, including Silver Oak, Joseph Phelps, Quintessa, Husic, Chimney Rock, Chappellet, Stags Leap and countless others in winemaking and the chemical engineering of wine as part of a consulting company for which he worked.

Aryn joined the Gard team as head winemaker in 2011, and spends considerable time in the winery’s estate vineyard with Josh Lawrence, Gard founder and viticulturist.  With an uncompromising attention to detail, Aryn carefully crafts Gard wines with an eye toward the unique expression of terroir of the estate vineyard, and earns frequent accolades and high acclaim for his wines.

In 2014, Aryn and Gard founders Josh and Lisa Lawrence launched a winemaking facility in Walla Walla, M&L Production, where all the Gård wines are produced, bottled and aged. Aryn also makes wine for Matthews Estate, Tenor, Alleromb and Mullan Road, a Washington project for Cakebread Cellars of California.
