Tasting notes

A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this 2021 Sparkling Rosé shows a beautiful pale copper hue. The nose is lifted and extremely energetic, with notes of dry strawberry, tangerine, candied flowers, and hints of ginger and ripe cantaloupe. The palate is juicy with fresh stone fruits, orange blossom, and a creamy mousse. Medium-bodied and beautifully textured, the wine shows impeccable balance and freshness. Very youthful and mouthwatering, but with remarkable tension and aging potential, this delicious sparkling is ready to be enjoyed now or age for a few years to get a creamier and more mature profile. Drink now or in the next 5 years.

92pts - International Wine Report - This fun sparkling wine by Gard is a mélange of 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay. A Brut Nature with zero dosage, it displays a beautiful salmon copper color in the glass. Very aromatic with yeasty with notes of underripe peach, apricot skin, grilled lemon, raspberry essence, mushroom, and spice. An aggressive mousse to start, it quickly calms down and is delicate and downright delicious. 2023-2033

92pts - Owen Bargreen - 2021 Gard ‘Skal’ Sparkling Wine- The ‘Skal’ comes from the 2021 vintage and combines mainly Pinot Noir (63%) with the remainder Chardonnay coming from the Solaksen Vineyard. This is seriously good with its salty tones alongside green olive, bright raspberry and starfruit flavors on the palate. The soft mousse entices, as this will drink well over the next decade. It’s completely delightful. 12.1% alcohol. TCA-free micro-agglomerated cork.

Gård Vintners is 100% estate grown sustainably at Lawrence Vineyards, featuring eight distinct vineyard sites in the Royal Slope AVA. With elevations that range 930 feet to 1,675 feet and primarily a south-facing slope, Lawrence Vineyards provides a great framework for grape production, while the diversity of each of the locations delivers a high level of complexity to Gård wines. We also farm vineyards on the Wahluke Slope and Conner Lee in the Columbia Valley. Lawrence Vineyards is certified sustainable by Vinewise.org.

Winemaker & Viticulturist
A Chilean with Greek roots, Matías was a Marine officer and Naval Engineer in Chile for more than seven years when he realized that it was time to change the course of his career: In 2005, he started studying Agricultural Engineering at the University of Chile, where he graduated with distinction and a major in Viticulture and Enology. He worked in Chile for a few years and in 2011 he decided to start traveling the world on a quest to learn new wine-making techniques. After several harvests in Oceania, Europe and Africa, he settled down in France, to do his post degrees at the Universities of Bordeaux and Montpellier. He also performed for two years as a Maître de Chai for one of the oldest and most reputable wineries in Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie.
After years of traveling and over 15 harvests, he came to the United States and joined Gård Vintners/Lawrence Vineyards as a Production Winemaker and Viticulturist, and is currently head winemaker for Gård Vintners, Desert Wind Winery, Valo Cellars, and his own label, Massalto. In his spare time he likes to jump out of planes and is a Judo Black Belt.
